NextGen EHR Support & Consulting

NextGen is widely deployed across independent specialty and multi-specialty practices, community health centers, and mid-size healthcare organizations. Strong specialty template library, capable integrated practice management, and a dedicated community health offering (NextGen Community Health Solutions) for FQHCs. Qventive's NextGen practice focuses on specialty configuration, billing performance, and practice-specific workflow optimization.

Why NextGen EHR Can't Wait

There are two kinds of IT companies that handle nextgen ehr support & consulting: those that learned it from a vendor webinar, and those that learned it by sitting beside physicians during patient encounters for 30 years. Qventive is the second kind.

The physicians we work with describe nextgen ehr support & consulting frustration the same way: You shouldn’t be the person explaining HL7 to your biller, or explaining scheduling workflows to your IT vendor. But that’s where most physicians end up — standing in the middle of three vendors who don’t speak each other’s language, translating for all of them, while patients are waiting.

Turning NextGen EHR Challenges Into Measurable Wins

Three principles guide every nextgen ehr support & consulting engagement:

Depth over breadth. We serve one industry. That means our engineers spend their entire careers learning healthcare workflows, EHR platforms, and compliance frameworks — not splitting attention across retail, legal, and finance.

Evidence over assumptions. We observe your practice before configuring anything. Most implementations fail because someone assumed they understood the workflow. We don’t assume.

Prevention over repair. Any IT company can fix things after they break. We monitor 24/7 to catch issues before your team even notices them. That’s the difference between reactive support and proactive partnership.

Multi-Provider Practice — IT Consolidation
THE PROBLEM
A growing practice in Bergen County was managing 5 separate IT vendors — one for networking, one for EHR, one for email, one for backup, and one for security. When a server issue disrupted EHR access for 4 hours, each vendor blamed the others. The practice lost a full day of patient revenue.
THE SOLUTION
Qventive consolidated all IT under a single managed services agreement. We audited the existing infrastructure, identified 3 redundant vendor contracts, standardized the network architecture, and deployed our healthcare-specific monitoring stack.
THE RESOLUTION
Vendor count dropped from 5 to 1. Monthly IT spend decreased 22% while service quality improved. Mean time to resolution for IT issues dropped from 4+ hours to under 30 minutes because one team owns the entire stack.

NextGen Product Lines

Three distinct NextGen products with different fit profiles.

NextGen Enterprise

The flagship product — deployed in mid-size to large medical practices, specialty groups, and multi-specialty organizations. Strong specialty template coverage, deep practice management integration, extensive reporting. Configuration depth is substantial — both a capability and a consistent source of underutilization.

NextGen Office

Cloud-based product aimed at smaller practices (typically 1-10 providers). Simpler configuration, faster deployment, lower operational overhead than Enterprise. Trade-off: less customization depth. Fit depends on practice size and specialty-specific needs.

NextGen Community Health Solutions

Purpose-built for FQHCs and community health centers — HRSA UDS reporting, sliding fee scale billing, 340B workflow support, integrated behavioral health. Strongest community-health-focused EHR in the market. See our FQHC IT page for FQHC-specific engagement patterns.

Platform selection depends on practice size, specialty mix, growth trajectory, and operational complexity. Our NextGen engagements span all three product lines.

NextGen Optimization Work

Where practices typically benefit most from optimization.

Specialty template refinement. NextGen ships with specialty templates across cardiology, orthopedics, dermatology, gastroenterology, urology, ophthalmology, ENT, and many others. Templates are capable starting points but typically need practice-specific refinement — specialty workflow patterns, practice-specific order sets, documentation shortcuts for high-volume encounter types.

Billing and revenue cycle optimization. NextGen Practice Management handles charge capture, claim submission, payer rules, and A/R workflow. Configuration quality varies significantly — practices with payer-specific rule sets, proper modifier logic, and structured denial workflow perform materially better than practices running defaults. Billing reviews typically produce revenue improvement.

Interface engineering. NextGen integrates with labs, imaging, specialty devices, state registries, PMPs, HIE connections, and specialty clinical tools. Interface health monitoring, new interface development, and troubleshooting are ongoing work. Complex interfaces (specialty-specific device integration, multi-payer portal integration) require engineering beyond standard interface libraries.

MIPS and registry reporting. NextGen provides MIPS reporting and specialty registry integration. Performance depends heavily on configuration — practices capturing MIPS-relevant data natively during encounters perform far better than practices doing retrospective data entry. Configuration work targeting specialty-specific measures produces measurable score improvement.

Common Questions About NextGen EHR

Depends on practice size, specialty, and operational complexity. NextGen Enterprise fits mid-size to large practices, multi-specialty groups, and practices needing deep customization. NextGen Office fits smaller practices prioritizing operational simplicity over customization depth. NextGen Community Health Solutions fits FQHCs and community health centers. Platform selection evaluation is part of our consulting work during EHR selection engagements.
Yes — common engagement type. Optimization work includes structured review of current configuration, identification of underutilized capabilities, prioritized remediation plan, implementation of priority items, and impact measurement. Most long-running NextGen practices have accumulated substantial optimization debt; systematic review typically surfaces 20-40 specific improvement opportunities.
Yes. Multi-specialty NextGen configuration requires per-specialty template work, coordinated workflow across specialties, shared operational reporting, and consistent billing rules adapted to each specialty's needs. Common in our client base — medium-to-large multi-specialty groups are a strong fit for Enterprise.
Yes. Migrations to NextGen (common source platforms: eClinicalWorks, Allscripts, Greenway, specialty platforms) and from NextGen (typically to athenahealth, Epic Community Connect, or specialty-specific platforms) are both common engagement types. Migration scope includes data mapping, clinical content conversion, workflow recreation, and operational transition. Timelines: 4-8 months depending on complexity.
NextGen provides MIPS reporting infrastructure; practice performance depends on configuration. Optimization covers: measure selection review (which measures fit actual practice workflow), documentation configuration to capture measure-relevant data natively, denominator/numerator validation, registry submission coordination, and reporting troubleshooting. See our MIPS consulting.
Yes. NextGen Patient Portal handles patient access, appointment scheduling, messaging, bill pay, and related patient-facing workflow. Adoption and operational value depend significantly on configuration quality. Practices that configure patient engagement thoughtfully get operational benefit; practices that deploy defaults typically get limited return.
NextGen is commonly deployed in PE-backed consolidated healthcare platforms. Multi-location NextGen engagements include cross-location configuration consistency, consolidated billing operations, shared specialty configuration patterns, and cross-site operational reporting. Our PE practice specifically supports NextGen platforms.
